Home > Products > Accessories > Tools & Connectors > How to Install BNC Connector onto Coax

The following is a 3 step guide on how to install BNC connector onto coax cable, using 1-piece BNC connector (it is called twist-on BNC, model# BNC11). There are also 2-piece and 3-piece BNC connectors, but the advantage of this method is you don't need a crimping tool which is rather difficult to handle; the twist-on BNC connection is very stable and effective as long as you follow the right steps with proper tools. Coax cable installing shouldn't result in any injuries when followed correctly; always safely store the cutters and do not use regular blade to strip the wire.

STEP 1: PREPARE CABLE

coax strippers, from PelikanCam.com Use either #45-265 or #45-526 and strip the cable to the lengths noted below. Model #45-265 is made of Zinc and more durable than #45-526. And once accustomed, #45-265 is more convenient to use.

STEP 2: ASSEMBLE BNC CONNECTOR

STEP 3: TEST THE CABLE

To get started, place one end of the cable (BNC connector) into the tester (#CT200) as shown left.

Short Test: Leave the other BNC connector open.

  • If the tester does not beep, then it is good.
  • If the tester beeps, the center conductor is shorted or crossed.
Continuity Test: Short the other BNC connector with any metal object such as paper clip or copper wire.
  • If the tester beeps, then it is good.
  • If the tester does not beep, there is a problem in the cable or BNC installation.
